Which controls work for temporary system access during a heavy transfer season?

Several temporary access requests arrive together when officers transfer. What approval, expiry, logging and review controls prevent standing access from accumulating while keeping work moving?

Recommended approach

Use role-based access packages with a named approver, a reason, and a fixed expiry. Make temporary access expire automatically, review exceptions weekly during the transfer window, and reconcile active accounts against joining and relieving orders when the window closes.

Why

Automatic expiry and a closing reconciliation address the two common failures: forgotten temporary grants and access retained after a change of role.
