What does F.R. 56 (j) say?
F.R. 56 (j), 56 (l) and Rule 48(1)(b) of CCS (Pension) Rules provides that the Government has the absolute right to retire Government servants in public interest by giving notice of 03 months after attaining certain age for strengthening administrative machinery at all levels to achieve efficiency, economy and speed in disposal of Government functions. It does not amount to premature retirement/ compulsory retirement/ penalty.

The Government has from time to time provided instructions for period review of Central Government employees for strengthening of administration under F.R. 56(j)/ (l) and Rule 48 of CCS (Pension) Rules, 1972. The O.M. No.25013/03/2019-Estt.A-IV dated 28th August, 2020 in this regard is placed below:
